“Believe”
The Theme of Book of
John
John
1
He came as a witness, to
bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. (John 1:7)
But to all who did receive
him, who believed in his name, he
gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of
the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12-13)
John
2
This, the first of his
signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his
disciples believed in him. (John
2:11)
When therefore he was raised
from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word
that Jesus had spoken. (John 2:22)
Now when he was in
Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed
in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. (John 2:23)
John
3
If I have told you earthly
things and you do not believe, how
can you believe if I tell you
heavenly things? (John 3:12)
And as Moses lifted up the
serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For
God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but
have eternal life.” For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the
world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but
whoever does not believe is
condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of
God. (John 3:14-18)
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life;
whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains
on him. (John 3:36)

Many Samaritans from that
town believed in him because of the
woman's testimony, “He told me all that I ever did.” (John 4:39)
And many more believed because of his word. They said
to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for
ourselves, and we know that this is indeed the Savior of the world.” (John
4:41-42)
Jesus said to him, “Go;
your son will live.” The man believed
the word that Jesus spoke to him and went on his way. (John 4:50)
The father knew that was
the hour when Jesus had said to him, “Your son will live.” And he himself believed, and all his household.(John
4:53)
John

Truly, truly, I say to
you, whoever hears my word and believes
him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has
passed from death to life. (John 5:24)
And the Father who sent me
has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form
you have never seen, and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do
not believe the one whom he has
sent. (John 5:37-38)
How can you believe, when you receive glory from
one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? Do not
think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you:
Moses, on whom you have set your hope. For if you believed Moses, you would believe
me; for he wrote of me. But if you do not believe
his writings, how will you believe
my words?” (John 5:44-47)
John

Jesus answered them, “This
is the work of God, that you believe
in him whom he has sent.” So they said to him, “Then what sign do you do, that
we may see and believe you? What
work do you perform? (John 6:29-30)
Jesus said to them, “I am
the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But
I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. (John 6:5-36)
For this is the will of my
Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up
on the last day.” (John 6:40)
Truly, truly, I say to
you, whoever believes has eternal
life. (John 6:47)
Simon Peter answered him,
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that
you are the Holy One of God.”(John 6:68-69)
John
7
Yet many of the people believed in him. They said, “When the
Christ appears, will he do more signs than this man has done?” (John 7:31)
Whoever believes in me, as
the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”
Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been
given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. (John 7:38-39)
John
8
He said to them, “You are
from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I
told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” (John 8:23-24)
As he was saying these
things, many believed in him. So
Jesus said to the Jews who had believed
him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know
the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:30-32)
But because I tell the
truth, you do not believe me. Which
one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? (John 8:45-46)
John
9
The Jews did not believe that he had been blind and had
received his sight, until they called the parents of the man who had received
his sight and asked them, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How
then does he now see? (John 9:18-19)
Jesus heard that they had
cast him out, and having found him he said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered, “And who is he, sir, that
I may believe in him?” Jesus said to
him, “You have seen him, and it is he who is speaking to you.” He said, “Lord,
I believe,” and he worshiped him.
(John 9:35-38)
John
10
Jesus answered them, “I
told you, and you do not believe.
The works that I do in my Father's name bear witness about me, but you do not believe because you are not among my
sheep. (John 10:25-26)
Do you say of him whom the
Father consecrated and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I
said, ‘I am the Son of God’? If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do
not believe me; but if I do them,
even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know
and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father.” Again they
sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands. He went away again
across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing at first, and
there he remained. And many came to him. And they said, “John did no sign, but
everything that John said about this man was true.” And many believed in him there. (John 10:36-42)
John
11
Then Jesus told them
plainly, “Lazarus has died, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so
that you may believe. But let us go
to him.” (John 11:14-15)
Jesus said to her, “I am the
resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he
live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes,
Lord; I believe that you are the
Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.”(John 11:25-27)
John
12
So the chief priests
made plans to put Lazarus to death as well, because on account of him many of
the Jews were going away and believing
in Jesus. (John 12:10-11)
While you have the
light, believe in the light, that
you may become sons of light.”
When Jesus had said
these things, he departed and hid himself from them. Though he had done so many
signs before them, they still did not believe
in him, so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
“Lord, who has
believed what he heard from us,
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been
revealed?” (John 12:36-38)
Nevertheless, many
even of the authorities believed in
him, but for fear of the Pharisees they did not confess it, so that they would
not be put out of the synagogue; for they loved the glory that comes from man
more than the glory that comes from God. And Jesus cried out and said, “Whoever
believes in me, believes not in me but in him who sent me. And whoever sees me sees
him who sent me. I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in
darkness. (John 12:42-46)
John 13
I am telling you
this now, before it takes place, that when it does take place you may believe that I am he. (John 13:19)
John 14
“Let not your hearts
be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. (John 14:1)
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the
Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own
authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else
believe on account of the works
themselves.
“Truly, truly, I say
to you, whoever believes in me will
also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I
am going to the Father. (John 14:10-12)
And now I have told
you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe. (John 14:29)
John 15
John 16
(On the Holy Spirit)
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness
and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; (John 16:8-9)
For the Father
himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. (John 16:27)
Now we know that you
know all things and do not need anyone to question you; this is why we believe that you came from God.”Jesus
answered them, “Do you now believe?
(John 16:30-31)
John 17
For I have given
them the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to
know in truth that I came from you; and they have believed that you sent me. (John 17:8)
“I do not ask for
these only, but also for those who will believe
in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in
me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John
17:20-21)
John 18
John 19
But one of the
soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and at once there came out blood and
water. He who saw it has borne witness—his testimony is true, and he knows that
he is telling the truth—that you also may believe.
(John 19:34-35)
John 20
Then the other
disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; for as yet they did not
understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead. (John 20:8-9)
Now Thomas, one of
the Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other
disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see
in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the
nails, and place my hand into his side, I
will never believe.”
Eight days later,
his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors
were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” Then
he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your
hand, and place it in my side. Do not
disbelieve, but believe.” Thomas
answered him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me?
Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Now Jesus did many
other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this
book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his
name. (John 20:24-31)
John 21
This is the disciple
who is bearing witness about these things, and who has written these things,
and we know that his testimony is true.
Now there are also
many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I
suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be
written. (John 21:24-25)
