Be diligent!

"Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace." (2 Peter 3:14) Dear Lord, grant me the discipline to do exactly that which you have written for our exhortation and reminding. The cares of the world has its allure, often empowering and causing me to lose sight of that which is of utmost importance. Grant me the patience of waiting for that which is to come - the day of your return ans while you tarry, help me to be diligent in all that concerns you.

None of his words fell to the ground

19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. 20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established as a prophet of the Lord. 21 And the Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord. (1 Sam 3:19-21) Lord, as I struggle to serve, fully aware of my deficiencies, incapabilities, weaknesses, inadequacies,  and struggles, please grow this servant and shape his tongue. May every word spoken be honorable to You and let none of it fall to the ground.

Seek the welfare of the city

I am reminded of a few key truths today. I have always struggled with the theology of seeking the welfare of the city, mainly because in a nation that idolizes work, the last thing you want to do is to give a rationalization excuse that God is supportive of this. But I know its importance. Over the past few months I have been consumed by a massive engineering project, the biggest thing I have ever been a part of as a young engineer and a chance to make a difference in the way people use their fuels. So as you read, please pray that I will seek the welfare of the city by: (1) Making cleaner fuels. It won't pleaae those who want to move away from fossil fuels but the change is significant as we face an inertia getting people to change the type of cars they drive (2) Making the plant safe. I will never forget Deepwater Horizon. I need to be responsible. People can die. Belittling safety calculations because its not the cool stuff of engineering will hurt people (3) Be professiona

The bookends of the book of Judges

The start of the Book of Judges hold so much promise. Israel was making serious headway in the Promised Land. Notice how the book if Judges opens. "After the death of Joshua, the people of Israel inquired of the LORD, "Who shall go up first for us against the Canaanites, to fight against them? The LORD said "Judah shall go up; behold, I have given the land into his hand." (Judges 1:1-2) Towards the end of the book, the LORD again calls Judah. But to attack one of Israel's own. "The people of Israel arose and went up to Bethel and inquired of God, "Who shall go up first for us to fight against the people of Benjamin?" And the LORD said, "Judah shall go up first." (Judah 20:18)

Daniel Raphael Silverstein expounds on the month of Nisan

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/daniel-raphael-silverstein/nisan-the-rebeginning-of-_b_5086618.html?&ncid=tweetlnkushpmg00000055 Interesting to note God set into motion the events to restore the walls in the month of Nisan. "In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence." (Neh 2:1)

The Darkling Thrush by Thomas Hardy

I leant upon a coppice gate When Frost was spectre-grey, And Winter's dregs made desolate The weakening eye of day. The tangled bine-stems scored the sky Like strings of broken lyres, And all mankind that haunted nigh Had sought their household fires. The land's sharp features seemed to be The Century's corpse outleant, His crypt the cloudy canopy, The wind his death-lament. The ancient pulse of germ and birth Was shrunken hard and dry, And every spirit upon earth Seemed fervourless as I. At once a voice arose among The bleak twigs overhead In a full-hearted evensong Of joy illimited; An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small, In blast-beruffled plume, Had chosen thus to fling his soul Upon the growing gloom. So little cause for carolings Of such ecstatic sound Was written on terrestrial things Afar or nigh around, That I could think there trembled through His happy good-night air Som
