Discipling is like Parenthood

The Apostle Paul describing his ministry in terms of motherhood and fatherhood in 1 Thessalonians. "But we were gentle among you, like a nursing mother taking care of her own children . So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us." (1 Thess 2:7-8) "For you know how, like a father with his children , we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory." (1 Thess 2:11-12) It is like motherhood because it is gentle, it loves and it requires us to give all of ourselves. It is like fatherhood because it exhorts and encourages and charges.

Michael Luo's sharing at the King's College

I love the New York Times. I don't have much time to read it these days but it is still my go to standard for what a newspaper should be like. Michael Luo's sharing of his journey through the New York Times in this video naturally intrigued me. When I saw the name I thought he sounded familiar and it was only while watching that I realized he wrote that very good piece on Jeremy Lin. It is a very encouraging sharing as well. Check out this piece that he wrote on Tim Keller in 2006 as well: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/26/nyregion/26evangelist.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

Chosen

"Behold, to the Lord your God belong heaven and the heaven of heavens, the earth with all that is in it. Yet the Lord set his heart in love on your fathers and chose their offspring after them, you above all peoples, as you are this day." (Deut 10:14-15)
